Genre
I’d like to do a drama/ coming of age type of genre for my film I was thinking for the plot to be how rising seniors find themselves during the summer and how they beat the stereotype for senioritis (not doing anything their last year of high school), and they succeed at life.
Coming of Age
COA movies show character development in the main character(s) and demonstrate how they are impacted by the events that have occurred upon them. Movies like, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, show how the main character, Charlie, navigates through his personal struggles, relationships and discovering himself. I want to do the same with my characters and develop them throughout the movie. The movie will start with them starting their summer going partying, drinking and getting high. Then by the time summer is over, they sober up and realize things need a change of tone. In order to succeed, I need to have a solid script and even better actors, because some of the scenes I want to include are very sentimental and rough.
Drama
Drama films add emotional depth to their characters and they usually have personal struggles, relationships, and are very raw and realistic. These are some characteristics I want my movie to have. A movie that I really like that inspired me was the 2003 film, Thirteen. This movie shows the main character, Tracy, goes from innocent to a troublesome thirteen-year-old getting piercings, tattoos, getting high and drunk, and rebelling against her mom. Although this movie is very intense, I like how emotional and raw it is. I don’t want my film to be as intense as Thirteen, but I want it to show how the film shows the challenges teens face in a way that feels authentic.
