Maddie had always been an introverted little girl. Her parents were always at work, so they didn’t really notice how lonely she was until her mom started spending more time at home and realized Maddie doesn’t have much of a social life. Maddie, although she spends most of her time at school, is always doing busy work, like homework, instead of hanging out with friends. Maddie used to have a best friend that moved far away and the only thing Maddie had left of her was a pen that she would only use to write in her diary. Sure, Maddie had “friends,” but they would always leave her out and never include her in anything. Maddie had spent the whole last week of school dreading summer, since school at least got her out of the house, and with no friends, she was utterly alone. She didn’t have a job, sport, or hobby, and her main past-time was journaling in her diary with her special pen.
Choosing Maddie:
We had many phases and ideas for what we wanted to create, but one thing was set for sure: We would have a troubled teenage girl as the main character. We had a plot with sci-fi, comedy, and drama. But once we got the plot down, it was obvious drama was what we wanted to do.
We chose the name Maddie because we felt the name reflected the character we wanted to portray. Maddie also means “young” and “maiden” symbolizing her youthful spirit and the innocence she struggles to maintain despite her loneliness.
